Off-The-Record: How To Pitch To Reuters
with Jan Strupczewski, Deputy Bureau Chief, France & Benelux
21st April 2026, 2pm UK / 3pm BX
What does it actually take to get on Reuters' radar? For PR and communications professionals working in business schools, universities, think tanks and policy organisations, securing coverage in Reuters can be transformative. But reaching journalists of Jan Strupczewski's calibre - and pitching them effectively - requires a deep understanding of how they work.
In this live, interview-format webinar, we sit down with Jan Strupczewski, Deputy Bureau Chief for France and Benelux at Reuters, who runs the agency's Brussels office. With more than 30 years at Reuters - beginning in Warsaw in 1993 - and two decades covering EU economics and policy, Jan brings unrivalled insight into how the world's leading wire service approaches the stories that matter to your audiences.
A three-time winner of the Reuters Journalist of the Year award, Jan has reported on some of the defining moments in European economic history, including the eurozone sovereign debt crisis. He knows exactly what a great story looks like — and in this session, he'll tell you how to bring one to him.
In this session, Jan will cover:
-
The beats he covers and the kinds of stories that genuinely interest him
-
What a good pitch looks like (and the common mistakes that kill one instantly)
-
How to position academic research, policy papers and expert commentary so they land
-
The best ways to reach him and when - and when not - to follow up
-
What the current EU and eurozone agenda means for the stories he's most likely to pursue

Find out More about BlueSky Media Connect Brussels
BlueSky Media Connect Brussels 2026 brings higher and business education communicators face to face with the journalists shaping global coverage of business, economics, policy and leadership. Hosted at Vlerick Business School in June, the two‑day conference is designed for communications and media relations professionals who want a clearer understanding of how international newsrooms think, decide what to cover, and engage with institutions.
Senior editors, bureau chiefs and correspondents from leading global outlets join delegates for candid discussions, panels and workshops that unpack what makes stories travel, what gets ignored, and how trust and credibility are built over time. The format is intentionally conversational, creating space for meaningful dialogue and long‑term professional relationships.
This webinar offers a snapshot of the conversations that define the Brussels conference, introducing the themes, perspectives and media realities that will be explored in much greater depth at Media Connect. For anyone considering attending in June, it is an early look at the insight, tone and value the event is known for.
